Vern Handrahan has the distinction of being the only Prince Edward island Major league baseball player to be born, raised , and having resided here. Two others , namely Henry Oxley and George Wood were born here but left at a very young age.   The first item is a 1960 game worn Ray Boone Milwaukee Braves cream coloured flannel home jersey that was recycled by the Braves and given to Vern Handrahan and worn during Milwaukee Braves spring training in 1961 and 1962. This Wilson size 44 beauty has a scripted Braves logo on the front with the famous black tomahawk below and a small #19 on the left chest. The jersey has a zippered front and on the left front on the lower bottom it states Wison size 44 , 1960, set#1. Inside the collar a label states Boone 1960.   Ray Boone was the first major leaguer of the Boone family and he was follwed to the big league show by son Bob and later grandsons Bret and Aaron. The Boones were baseballs first three generation family of Major League ballplayers and all three generations played in at least one All Star Game. Ray Boone played 13 seasons in the Majors with Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City, Milwaukee and Boston as a shortstop, third baseman, and first baseman from 1948 to 1960. He compiled 1260 hits including 162 dingers and 737 runs batted in while hitting a solid .275 lifetime.
